I am using research that I have gathered through interviews. I interviewed a 2nd grade student, a 1st grade teacher, and a elementary school parent. Let's start with the student. The student started off by telling me how much fun the I-pad is. He lives playing games-especially the game with the frog that eats the math facts. I don't think that students would even view the I-pad as work or learning.
The 1st grade teacher finds that some of the students behaviors worsen when I-pads are used in the classroom. Some students can't contain their excitement. She found that the students with ADHD had the hardest time. I interviewed a parent of a student who is in the 3rd grade. She found I-pads to be a huge success. She thinks that I-pads can center the focus and likes them because children don't even realize they are learning. I found that my research did make me think of the pros and cons of having I-pads in the classroom. I would still have them in my classroom.

ReplyDeleteI think it is great that you interviewed students, parents, and teachers, rather than using articles or the textbook to back up your information. I think it is obvious that most students will enjoy using the iPad, even if for educational reasons, as it gives them a reason to play games and interact with technology. I also think it is great that parents are on board for using iPads in the classroom, when they are used for educational purposes and only for a specific period of time. I think students are more motivated when they see their parents are helping them with the work and having fun with them. It gives reason for parents to interact with their children, as well as complete educational work with them.
I can understand why the teacher would say the iPad can be a distraction, however I think if its used in moderation and the students are trained on how to use them properly (as well as having set rules and guidelines for their use), it will be less of a distraction and will be beneficial for students.
