UDL requires that you teach to every student. This video below has a ton of great ideas of how to meet the needs of all the diverse learners in your class.
After seeing this video and looking over these images, it is clear to me that I will need to know my students well in order to teach them to the best of my ability. Not only will I need to "know" my students but I will accept their backgrounds and respect their views. Allowing students to share about themselves will bring diversity into the classroom and open the children's minds.
I agree with you that knowing your students is key to being an effective teacher. It takes a little time to get to figure our each student's strengths and weaknesses but ultimately that will help you create lessons to more successfully meet their needs.
ReplyDeleteAlong with getting to know your students, I think letting them be themselves is also an important aspect for being an effective teacher. By accepting students for who they are they will feel comfortable in your classroom and be open to learning.

I think it is great that you have learned that allowing students to share about themselves brings diversity to the classroom. This is a great idea to help students collaborate with one another and help to build relationships within the learning environment.

ReplyDeleteI agree with all of the previous post as well. As a teacher getting to know every student is key to gaining trust and allowing the students to be comfortable in the environment. Also it is great to give them options and gear ideas towards their interests
